Barcelona are in the market for a new left-back this summer. With Jordi Alba nearing the final phase of his respective career, there are question marks over his longevity and fitness.

Xavi Hernandez believes he needs a proper backup for Alba, who is currently the only recognised option available at left-back. Due to the lack of a reliable alternative, the Barcelona coach has had to play Sergino Dest in that position this season.

In order to mitigate the issue, Barcelona are ready to target a left-back in the coming summer. The Catalans are reportedly scouting up to ten options in the market, including VfB Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa.

The Croatian international is regarded as one of the best fullbacks in the Bundesliga following a couple of excellent seasons with the Swabians. But with the prospect of relegation looming large, he could end up leaving Stuttgart at the end of the season.

Sosa’s precarious situation has put Barcelona on red alert. But as per Kicker (h/t Daily Mail), the Catalans are set to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

Manchester United, for one, are prioritising a move for the Croat this summer, with Erik ten Hag considering him as the ideal upgrade over Luke Shaw and Alex Telles.

Chelsea are also involved in the race to sign Sosa, amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Marcos Alonso. Curiously, the Spaniard has been linked with a move to Camp Nou lately.

Barcelona, though, would certainly favour a move for Sosa, who is being compared to English footballing legend David Beckham due to his crossing abilities and his long blonde hair.

With eight assists in 27 league matches, the Croatian international has once again enjoyed an impressive Bundesliga campaign. His services out wide have been critical in helping Stuttgart remain in the race for survival, as we near the business end of the campaign.

But regardless of the outcome in the final matchday, Sosa would be prepared to take the next step in his career by joining a bigger team this summer. And with Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United lining up, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the fullback.
