The upcoming summer transfer window is an extremely pivotal one for Barcelona as they look to build a squad capable of reasserting their dominance in Spanish and European football after a couple of disappointing years.
The board backed manager Xavi Hernandez during the January transfer window, bringing in the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore.
And another window chock full of activity can be expected at Camp Nou come summer, with there likely to be numerous incomings and outgoings.
Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an insight into the plans and strategies that Barcelona have in place ahead of their squad rebuild for next season.
According to the Italian journalist, the Blaugrana are keen on achieving a fine balance between youth and experience in the squad for the upcoming campaigns.
In the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, Nico Gonzalez and Ronald Araujo, Barça are blessed with some of the finest young talent in all of Europe.
However, the Catalans are aware that they need an experienced hand on the field to guide them through difficult periods. Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are all top-notch professionals, who can act as role models for the youngsters coming through.
At the same time, though, it would not hurt to bring in one or two more experienced individuals who can act as an example for the youth brigade.
This could be one of the reasons why Barcelona are pushing to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. A versatile player, the Spaniard would not only add depth to the squad, but he would bring a lot more to the table with his experience and know-how.
Furthermore, having been a part of a successful Chelsea team for a decade, the 32-year-old would also be able to impart his winning mentality to the youngsters.
