It would be fair to say that Lionel Messi’s debut season at Paris Saint-Germain has not been the roaring success that many thought it would be.
The Argentine superstar left Barcelona last summer and signed for the French heavyweights on a Bosman deal after the Catalans could not renew his contract.
And while there have been promising moments every now and then during his stint, Messi has failed to reach the heights expected of him in his first year in Paris.
Although he has assisted 13 goals, a return of just eight goals from 29 games is not what fans expect from the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
And there have been plenty of speculations that the 34-year-old could be considering the prospect of leaving Parc des Princes just a year after moving there.
Now, a fresh report from Calciomercato sheds light on the former Barcelona captain’s ordeal in Paris. Even though their Ligue 1 title triumph is all but confirmed, PSG are not satisfied with the season and are looking to make several changes in the summer.
And, Messi could be on the move as well, with the report citing two reasons for his desire to secure an exit at the end of the season.
It is stated that the Barcelona icon is unhappy in Paris, which was alluded to by Messi’s former Barça teammate and very close friend, Dani Alves, on multiple occasions.
Secondly, the Argentine contingent at the club – Angel Di Maria, Leandro Paredes and Mauro Icardi are all expected to leave at the end of the season. It is said to be another reason for Messi to consider an exit himself.
A return to Barcelona has been mooted ever since he left. And club president Joan Laporta made it clear recently that the doors are always open for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to return to Camp Nou.
