Barcelona took another step towards securing a second-place finish in La Liga as they defeated Celta Vigo 3-1 at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
Memphis Depay got the ball rolling for the Blaugrana before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in quick succession on either side of half-time to put the team in the driving seat.
Iago Aspas pulled one goal back, but Jeison Murillo’s sending off ensured that Celta were in no position to mount a comeback.
While the win is certainly a positive for Barcelona, especially considering some of their recent performances at home, they were also dealt with a blow with regard to their next game against Getafe.
The Catalan giants will be facing the Azulones this Sunday away from home and will now have to do so without three key players, as Jordi Alba, Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia are now suspended after picking up yellow cards against Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
Garcia was the first among the trio to be booked as he was shown a yellow for a poor challenge on Aspas in the 80th minute.
De Jong and Alba got their bookings deep into stoppage time for fouls on Gabri Veiga and Aspas, respectively, and will now stand to miss the upcoming clash.
