Todd Boehly wants to see Chelsea active in the transfer market immediately after his takeover of the club is completed, according to reports.
It has been claimed this week that Roman Abramovich’s sale of the Blues could be completed before the end of the season and is on course to be sorted before the May 31 deadline.
Boehly’s consortium agreed terms to buy Chelsea on Friday with Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss set to pay £2.5billion for the club while promising a further £1.75bn to ensure future sucess.
And with it now seemingly a matter of time before Boehly has control of the club, the Evening Standard claim that he is ready to ‘kick-start Chelsea transfer plans ahead of vital summer spending spree’.
There are ‘serious concerns within the club that they are playing catch-up this summer’ with Chelsea now 19 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City after their recent slump in form.
Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are set to leave on free transfers in the summer window and they could be joined by Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, who have been linked to moves away.
The Evening Stanadard insists that Tuchel is ‘expected to be fully backed in the transfer market’ with the former Borussia Dortmund coach wanting ‘two centre-backs, as well as reinforcements to his attack’ plus ‘cover at wing-back’.
The report adds that ‘his plans in midfield are dependent on departures’ while he is ‘still to be convinced’ that Romelu Lukaku ‘can be the long-term solution at the point of his attack’.
Lukaku scored his first Premier League goals of 2022 as Chelsea went 2-0 up against Wolves over the weekend before Bruno Lage’s men grabbed a 2-2 draw with goals from Francisco Trincao and Conor Coady handing them a share of the spoils.
On their performance, Tuchel said: “At some point we played like we were 2-0 down not 2-0 up. I don’t think we were too deep, I think it was the opposite, and then we tried to respond to it and change the structure.
“So I don’t know if that was the right decision from me, I need to watch it again. But in general it’s a lack of execution, of discipline and execution of the match plan throughout the whole half. If you get punished for it, if it’s fair or not it’s not worth discussing.”
