Barcelona are in for a massive overhaul this summer, and the part of the rebuild could see several academy graduates leave the club.
The likes of Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig have already been linked with a move away from Camp Nou, after being deemed surplus to the requirement for Xavi Hernandez.
According to Gerard Romero, it appears Nico Gonzalez could be another La Masia product in contention to leave Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The reputed Spanish journalist claims Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is actively finding a new club for Nico this summer, in light of his lack of prospects at Camp Nou next season.
Despite being regarded as one of the most talented players to come out of the academy in recent years, Nico has certainly found it difficult to follow in the footsteps of Ansu Fati and Pedri.
He has struggled to gain prominence in Xavi’s setup, notably amassing just 12 starts in La Liga this past season. It is believed to be too low for a player of his calibre, and with Barça poised to sign new players in the summer, his role at the club could dwindle further.
Although Xavi continues to rate Nico highly, agent Mendes believes a move away from Camp Nou could be the best option for the youngster’s immediate development.
Wolves had recently expressed the desire to include Nico in their deal to sell Barcelona’s midfield target, Ruben Neves. Given the healthy relationship between the two clubs, a loan move to Molineux would not come as a surprise.
However, with Nico severely lacking game-time at Camp Nou, it remains to be seen whether his agent finds him a permanent move away from Catalunya this summer.
