Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku would jump at the chance to re-join Inter Milan this summer, Football Insider has learned.
The club-record signing’s future is up in the air now his much-hyped return to Stamford Bridge has turned sour.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Lukaku, 28, would love to head back to Inter for a second spell just a year after he left.
The £97million star has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and this site revealed last month (20 March) that he is “not happy” and wants to quit.
Inter are among the clubs keeping tabs on Lukaku’s situation, although they would prefer a loan over a permanent deal due to the costs involved.
The Belgium international put pen to paper on a five-year deal upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge last August.
But he has fallen down the pecking order in west London, with Kai Havertz the preferred choice up front.
Blues boss Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with Lukaku’s condition earlier this season and the centre-forward has struggled to regain favour since.
In Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace, Lukaku entered the pitch as a late substitute.
The ex-Man United man has contributed 12 goals and two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
He has not scored a Premier League goal this calendar year.
Lukaku enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at Inter Milan.
He scored 64 goals in 95 games across all competitions.
