Rishi Sunak becomes the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Introduced after becoming leader of the British Conservative Party.
Sir Graham Brady announced that the 1922 Commission had the support of his 100 Members of Parliament and that he received only one nomination for a new leader.
Sir Brady therefore proclaimed Sunak the next leader of the party, the new prime minister.
He confirmed that the new leader of the Tories, Rishi Sunak, will address MPs at 14:
Earlier, one of his contenders for the top British job, Penny Mordaunt, announced his retirement from racing, leaving his Sunak as the sole contender for the position.
Mr Mordaunt said in a statement, “Our party is our member, whether it’s elected officials, activists, fundraisers or supporters.
“These are unprecedented times. Despite the shortened schedule of leadership competitions, it is clear that colleagues feel they need reassurance today.
You have made this decision in good faith for the good of the country.
“Members should know that this proposal has been tested fairly and thoroughly by the agreed 1922 process.
“As a result, the next prime minister was elected. The decision is historic and once again demonstrates the diversity and talent of our party.Rishi will fully support you.
“I am proud of the campaign we ran and grateful to all those, across all sides of our party, who gave me their backing. We all owe it to the country, to each other and to Rishi to unite and work together for the good of the nation. There is much work to be done.”
