Frank Lebouef delivered a critical assessment of Chelsea’s Jorginho after yesterday’s win against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Chelsea will compete in the FA Cup final for a third consecutive season when they face Liverpool next month. Hopefully, the Blues can make up for consecutive defeats in the last two FA Cup finals against Leicester City and Arsenal.
Thomas Tuchel’s side recorded a 2-0 win on Sunday against Premier League and London rivals Palace at Wembley Stadium.
English duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount both scored in the second half, as they came to life after a dull opening 45 minutes.
Lebouef wasn’t too impressed with the performance of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, though. He suggests the 30-year-old can be a problem for his team at times with the pace he plays at.
“With all due respect to Jorginho, yes, he’s there, he doesn’t lose the ball, but sometimes he slows down the game, and that’s not a very good thing for Chelsea,” Leboeuf told ESPN.
Chelsea know what Jorginho offers
Lebouef’s not gone overboard with his criticism of Jorginho, but he makes a fair point.
Italy international Jorginho is someone who’s delivered on the biggest stages in the past and is one of the very best at what he does.
For certain, the deep-lying playmaker runs games at times in a Chelsea shirt.
However, it massively helps when there’s more dynamism in the midfield with players such as N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Mateo Kovacic.
He didn’t do enough at the weekend with his start in the team to send a real message to his manager Tuchel.
