Spanish news outlet SPORT has claimed that Celta de Vigo left-back Javi Galan is close to joining Barcelona in the summer, with the team willing to let him leave for as low as €10 million.
Barcelona’s hunt for acquiring a covering left-back has led to them shortlisting several top prospects. Among those are Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo, who is keen on returning to Catalonia, Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico and of course, Javi Galan.
Even the name of Alex Telles of Manchester United has been thrown in the air.
Barcelona’s idea of signing Galan would be to make him play as a second fiddle to Jordi Alba rather than use him as a first-team regular. For that only matter, the deal might hit a roadblock.
However, Barcelona can work this issue out by offering a player in return. Now, it’s no secret that a certain Denis Suarez is having his issues with the Celta board. And despite having a contract until 2025, he is most likely to depart in the summer.
This is where Barcelona can chip in by helping Celta fill the vacant space. SPORT says in order to kill two birds with one stone, Barcelona aim to offer Riqui Puig in return.
This will serve everyone’s purpose as Celta will have a new midfielder while Barcelona can negotiate a lower figure than the aforementioned €10 million. The Blaugranes are also keeping the option of offering Martin Braithwaite wide open.
Despite the effort, however, it is not clear whether or not Celta can, in fact, afford the players as they, like Barcelona, have been struggling with a financial crisis of their own.
Meanwhile, Galan has been a towering presence for Celta this season, playing 32 of the 33 league games and two Copa del Rey matches as well. In these 34 outings, the left-back has chipped in with three assists.
