With Barcelona targeting a move for a new forward in the summer transfer window, it has cast clouds of uncertainty over the future of Memphis Depay at the club.
The 28-year-old was signed only last year on a Bosman deal after his contract with Olympique Lyon had run out. And even though he made a promising start to life as a Barça player, things have not worked out for the Dutchman.
Depay picked up an injury very early in Xavi Hernandez’s spell as manager. With the club bringing in Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore in January, the Ronald Koeman signing swiftly fell down the pecking order.
Throw in Ousmane Dembele’s resurgence and the possibility of a contract extension coupled with Ansu Fati’s return from a long-term injury, Depay’s prospects at Camp Nou do not look good.
It will likely get only worse as the Catalan giants are lining a move for a new striker this summer. It has led to talks surrounding the future of Depay, with Barcelona believed to be open to sanctioning a departure for an acceptable fee.
