Young defender Mika Marmol is predicted to form it to Barcelona’s pre-season tour squad, but it’s understood that the team may need to place some effort into his renewal process since he has several options on the table, says journalist Santi Ovalle.
The 20-year-old left-footed centre-back is rightly tipped for an excellent future, but despite his exploits with the junior team, he has did not get an area within the senior squad.
But now that Barcelona’s are assured of the UEFA Champions League spot for next season, Xavi might also look to offer him the needed minutes within the last few games.
It must be noted that Marmol’s ongoing contract runs call at 2023, and there has been no movement either from the player’s front or from the team itself.
Marmol has been a topic of heavy interest within the past. Back in December, it had been reported that Sevilla have an interest in offering him a contract, but the move fell through for a few reason.
By December 2021, the 20-year-old hadn’t missed one minute with Barcelona B, juggling between the left-back and therefore the centre-back position.
Furthermore, even before Sevilla had identified him as a possible target, the likes of Mallorca, Getafe and Celtic had tried their luck within the previous summer but to no avail.
In January, Borussia Dortmund came knocking on the doors. The Germans are known to churn the simplest out of young guns and even have a quick history with Barcelona too, having acquired the likes of Marc Bartra, Sergio Gomez and Mateu Morey within the past.
While all the moves haven’t really figured out well, they haven’t given abreast of trying their luck on Barcelona’s youngsters.
As of today, things with Marmol is hard , to mention the very least. If Xavi can promise him a daily run within the varsity , he might consider extending his stay. on the other hand again, he knows the leverage he has at his disposal.
