With Barcelona still trying to reach a resolution over the future of star winger Ousmane Dembele, they might receive help in their bid to tie him down to a new deal from an unlikely source.
Dembele’s current contract with Barcelona stands to expire at the end of June. Talks over an extension have been ongoing for months now without a breakthrough in sight.
And with time running out fast for the Blaugrana, they may be set to receive a helping hand in their efforts to secure Dembele’s future at Camp Nou from PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Much like Dembele, Mbappe, too, is in the final couple of months of his contract with PSG. Real Madrid are pushing to sign him while Les Parisiens are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to keep their superstar at the club.
Mbappe’s mother, who also handles his representation, confirmed earlier this week that both PSG and Real Madrid had tabled similar offers and the decision was now up to the forward to choose where he wants to play from next season.
And in case Mbappe decides to pick PSG over Real Madrid, it could come as a huge boost to Barcelona. It is no secret that Les Parisiens have been trying to sign Dembele on a free transfer, with a pre-contract agreement even believed to be in place.
However, if Mbappe stays, it is extremely unlikely that PSG will sign Dembele, meaning that his chances of staying at Camp Nou will increase, claims Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV.
It could end up being a double boost for Barcelona as they will not only retain a top player but also see their rivals Real Madrid miss out on their priority transfer target.
Mbappe is expected to confirm his decision in the coming days and not only Real Madrid fans, but Barcelona supporters will also be closely watching the World Cup winner’s situation.
